RNVG — Ruggedized Night Vision Goggle

The RNVG is built around a single principle: it cannot break. CNC-machined from solid billet 7075 aluminum — the same alloy used in aircraft structural components — the housing is 36% stronger than most steel and engineered to survive the drops, impacts, and abuse that end lesser optics. Inside that housing, you choose your tubes: Elbit or L3Harris, green or white phosphor, each variant selected for a specific use case and performance tier.

Why Operators Choose the RNVG

Unmatched construction

Optical pods and bridge CNC-machined from solid billet 7075 aluminum. Impact forces are redirected into a hardened structure — not absorbed by the optics.

Familiar controls

Three-position switch — Off, On, IR On — mirrors the PVS-14 exactly. Any operator who has run a 14 is ready to run an RNVG without retraining.

Dual-tube depth perception

40° field of view with true binocular vision. Better situational awareness and depth cues than any monocular setup, with both eyes collecting light simultaneously.

Submersible housing

Rated to 66 feet. Not splash-resistant — submersible. Sealed for real-world conditions.

PVS-14 optics compatibility

Accepts standard PVS-14 eyepiece and objective lenses. Parts are interchangeable, supply chains are established, and your armorer already knows this system.

Choosing Your Tube

The housing is the same across all configurations. What changes is the image intensifier tube inside each optical pod. Here’s what you’re actually choosing between:

Elbit Systems of America

Elbit XLSH White Phosphor — Thin-filmed Gen 3 tubes. High sensitivity, excellent low-light performance, may show minor cosmetic blemishes. The most common Elbit configuration and a proven performer. White phosphor renders a grey-scale image that most operators find easier on the eyes during extended wear.

Elbit PH White Phosphor — Tighter spot specifications than XLSH. Fewer and smaller blemishes in the image area. The step up for buyers who want a cleaner viewing experience while staying with Elbit tubes.

L3Harris

L3Harris 24UA White Phosphor (Unfilmed) — Unfilmed means the Microchannel Plate has no ion barrier film. The result: improved contrast, better perceived resolution, and stronger low-light performance compared to filmed tubes. The 24UA designation indicates a higher performance tier. These are highly regarded by experienced operators for their clarity.

NNVT

NNVT 1600+ FOM Autogated White Phosphor — NNVT tubes are Gen 2+, not Gen 3. They are non-U.S. manufactured and carry a 2-year warranty (vs. 10 years on U.S.-made Elbit and L3Harris Gen 3 tubes). Autogating means the tube automatically adjusts gain in rapidly changing light conditions — useful near vehicle headlights, muzzle flash, or streetlights. FOM of 1600+ is a solid metric for Gen 2+ performance and the autogating makes these tubes capable in dynamic environments, at a lower price point than U.S. Gen 3 tubes.

What is FOM?

Figure of Merit is calculated by multiplying a tube’s resolution (line pairs per mm) by its signal-to-noise ratio. It’s a useful benchmark but not the complete picture — two tubes with identical FOM can render differently in the field. Every tube comes with its actual measured datasheet.

Hand Select — See Your Tube Before You Buy

We offer hand-select service on many tubes. Email us to request datasheets on available tubes before purchasing. You’ll see the actual measured specs — FOM, SNR, resolution, EBI, and halo — for the specific tube going into your unit. Call (888) 330-7057 or email sales@superiortac.com — we carry more tube options than the dropdown shows.

Warranty

Elbit and L3Harris tubes (U.S.-made Gen 3): 10-year warranty — covers the full unit including housing, optics, electronics, and tube. Does not cover accidental damage or misuse.

NNVT tubes: 2-year warranty — NNVT is not a U.S.-manufactured tube and does not carry the same warranty coverage as Elbit or L3Harris.

All RNVG units from Superior Tactical are backed by in-house repairs with free diagnostic. If something goes wrong, you’re calling us.

Who Buys the RNVG from Superior Tactical

Most of our RNVG customers are former military or law enforcement who’ve already run a PVS-14 and know they want to step up to binocular. They’re not learning night vision from scratch — they’re upgrading to better depth perception and situational awareness for the same type of work they’ve always done. They want a housing that holds up to the same abuse as what they ran in service, and they want to be able to source parts and support without waiting on a foreign manufacturer.

We built our business around that customer. Straight answers, no upsell, and someone who picks up the phone.

Common Questions

Do you have tube options not listed in the dropdown?
Yes. Call (888) 330-7057 or email sales@superiortac.com. Tube availability changes constantly and we carry more configurations than the site reflects.

Can I see the datasheet before I buy?
Yes — email us to request datasheets on specific tubes before purchasing. Hand-select means you see the actual measured specs for your tube before it goes into your unit.

How does the NNVT tube compare to Elbit or L3Harris?
NNVT is a non-U.S. manufactured Gen 2+ tube. The 1600+ FOM autogated configuration performs well and autogating is a real advantage in dynamic lighting. The trade-off is the 2-year warranty vs. 10 years on U.S. tubes. If warranty coverage and U.S. supply chain matter to you, go Elbit or L3Harris. If you want the lowest price point with autogating, NNVT is worth considering.

How fast does it ship?
Most orders ship within 1–2 business days.

The RNVG is a controlled technology subject to U.S. export control laws. Subject to ITAR, Title 22 CFR Parts 120–130. For sale to U.S. persons only.
