DTNVS-MG vs DTNVS-14: Which ACT in Black Housing Should You Build?

Both the DTNVS-MG and the DTNVS-14 are dual-tube binocular housings on ACT in Black’s proven DTNVS platform — but they’re built for different budgets and builders. Here’s how to choose.

DTNVS-MG — the manual-gain flagship

The DTNVS-MG is the full ACT in Black housing with a dedicated manual gain dial, letting you tune brightness on the fly — useful in mixed-light conditions and around artificial light. It’s the choice when you want the complete flagship feature set. See the DTNVS-MG build kit.

DTNVS-14 — the accessible DTNVS binocular

The DTNVS-14 brings the DTNVS bridge-style dual-tube design to a lower price point. It accepts standard MX-10160 (18mm) tubes and uses PVS-14-style optics, with manual gain handled through the power knob rather than a dedicated dial. Runtime is excellent (~50 hours on a single CR123A), with a Fischer connector for remote power and IPX4 water resistance. It’s the value path into a DTNVS binocular. See the DTNVS-14 build kit.

How they compare to other builds

Both DTNVS housings articulate and sit at the premium end of dual-tube binoculars. If you’re weighing them against AB Night Vision’s RNVG or a single-tube PVS-14, see our full RNVG vs ARNVG vs DTNVS vs PVS-14 comparison. For the most affordable entry into night vision, the single-tube PVS-14 build kit is the place to start.

Which DTNVS should you build?

  • Want the full manual-gain flagship? DTNVS-MG.
  • Want a DTNVS binocular at a lower entry point, using standard 18mm tubes? DTNVS-14.

Both are housing-only kits — you supply the tubes or have us assemble them. Browse all build kits.
