Description

NNVT Gen 2+ Image Intensifier Tubes — 1600+ FOM Autogated White Phosphor

NNVT (North Night Vision Technology) is the largest Chinese manufacturer of image intensifier tubes, built on production lines and technology derived from Photonis XD4/XR5 — the same platform that underpins many of the most respected European Gen 2+ tubes. The NVT-5 tubes we carry deliver a minimum 1600 FOM, autogated white phosphor performance, and extremely clean screens with minimal factory artifacts — at a price point well below domestic Gen 3 alternatives.

For buyers who want white phosphor autogated performance in a PVS-14 build or binocular housing without the premium cost of Elbit or L3Harris tubes, NNVT is the most practical entry point on the market.

Why NNVT

Clean screens

NNVT tubes are well known in the night vision community for producing consistently clean images with little to no factory dark spots or artifacts. For buyers who want a blemish-free viewing experience at an accessible price, NNVT routinely delivers where Gen 3 tubes at the same price tier often don’t.

Autogated

All NVT-5 tubes are autogated — the tube automatically adjusts its voltage in response to changing light conditions, protecting the photocathode and maintaining image quality when transitioning from dark environments into areas with bright light sources.

White phosphor (P45)

White phosphor renders a neutral, high-contrast image that many users find more natural and easier to interpret over extended wear compared to traditional green phosphor. The P45 screen on NNVT tubes delivers the white phosphor advantage without the Gen 3 price tag.

Photonis-derived technology

NNVT’s manufacturing process is based on Photonis XD4/XR5 era technology, which means the underlying tube architecture is grounded in proven European Gen 2+ design principles. These are not generic budget tubes — they are purpose-built for performance within their tier.

Format compatibility

MX-10160

The MX-10160 format is used in binocular night vision housings including the RNVG, DTNVS, BNVD, and similar dual-tube systems. If you’re building or upgrading a binocular system, this is the format you need.

MX-11769

The MX-11769 format is used in the AN/PVS-14 monocular. If you’re building a PVS-14 or upgrading an existing housing, select this format.

Not sure which format your housing takes? Call us at (888) 330-7057 or email sales@superiortac.com and we’ll confirm the right tube for your setup.

Who buys NNVT tubes

NNVT tubes are a strong fit for buyers who are building their first night vision system and want proven autogated white phosphor performance without paying Gen 3 prices. They’re also popular for secondary builds — operators who already run high-spec tubes on a primary unit and want a capable, cost-effective backup system.

If you’re coming from a military or law enforcement background and are used to Gen 3 performance, NNVT tubes will not match that benchmark. They’re Gen 2+ and should be evaluated as such. What they offer within that tier is hard to beat for the price.

Image intensifier tubes are ITAR-controlled commodities. Export is strictly prohibited without a valid license issued by the U.S. Department of State. For sale to U.S. persons only.

Common Questions

Is this a complete PVS-14 unit?
No. This is a standalone image intensifier tube only. You will need a compatible PVS-14 housing kit or existing housing to install it. Contact us at (888) 330-7057 for help matching a tube to a housing.

What does FOM mean?
FOM stands for Figure of Merit — calculated by multiplying signal-to-noise ratio by resolution. It is the single best indicator of overall tube performance. Higher FOM means better low-light performance. For most users we recommend a minimum of 1600 FOM.

Can I see a datasheet for this tube?
Yes. We include a measured datasheet with every tube we sell showing the actual tested specifications. Contact us at (888) 330-7057 if you want to see the datasheet before purchasing, or select Hand Select for a specific tube.
