About the PVS-7 Platform

The AN/PVS-7 uses a single Gen II or Gen III image intensifier tube paired with a beam-splitter to provide binocular night vision through both eyepieces. This single-tube design keeps the unit lighter and significantly less expensive than dual-tube binocular night vision goggles like the PVS-15 or PVS-31. The trade-off is no true depth perception — both eyes see the same image rather than independent images from two separate intensifier tubes.

The unit ships with a built in infrared illuminator that activates automatically in complete darkness or when the user manually turns it on. The IR illuminator throws a tight beam of invisible light that lets the image intensifier tube produce a usable image even when there is no ambient moonlight or starlight available. The PVS-7 also includes automatic light cut and bright-source protection circuitry that shuts down the tube when exposed to intense light, protecting the photocathode from damage. The unit can be worn head-mounted with the included headstrap or with a helmet mount adapter for use with standard tactical helmets.
